Hola, Buenos Dias!
Estamos en Morales! (We are in Morales).
Today we woke in a lovely hotel in Flores and enjoyed breakfast before we all part for a week. Mark to Bermuda and Gramma and yo (me) to Morales.
Mark flew from Santa Elena to Guatemala City y proxima mañana (the next morning) will fly to Bermuda. Gramma and I took another Tuk Tuk a (to) el terminal de autobuses (bus station) por la mañana (in the morning). The bus was basically an old tour bus, but the seats were comfortable. The drive was beautiful through the jungle and we enjoyed the scenery. We met up with the family in Morales where they picked us up in a Tuk Tuk...... 1 Tuk Tuk for 4 adults and 3 children + luggage! We made it and it was a sight to see, I'm sure.
The family is positively wonderful and welcoming. I felt like a queen and part of the family immediately even with a language barrier. I was humbled by their kindness and affection. The little girls (Kimberly and Andrea) immediately came and gave me a hug as if they had known me forever. They call Gramma (Abuelita) which is a familiar Gramma in Spanish. We were immediately a family.
They decorated their house (casa) with ribbons, signs, and balloons for our arrival. We were completely humbled and tears came to my eyes with their kindness. They then showered us with beautiful necklaces, earrings, and rings specifically chosen for us with our favorite colors and the first letter of my name. We brought books, electronics, and other things such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, vitamins, etc.
Kimberly and Andrea asked us to read the books over and over again in Spanish and English. They are adorable and very sweet. They hug and kiss Gramma as their own and cuddle up on our laps as if we are family! They are already asking if I will be coming next year. The little baby, Fernanda is almost 1 year old. She is verbs shy towards us, but loves her mama very much. To rock her to sleep Irma (mama) wraps her in a small hammock and swings her...it works like a charm!
Juanito (Juan) is 13 yrs old and is learning a little English and computers in school. He attends traditional school and a special academy to learn computers. We brought Juan a computer and programmed it with a word pad to write and to keep photos and music on. Juan y yo (me) worked on the computer and somehow with his broken English and my broken Spanish we understood each other and learned the computer together!
Irma is a wonderful cook and made us ensalada russa (Russian salad) and a chicken soup that was very good with past and vegetables. Gramma really likes Irma's salad...I do too!
I slept under a mosquito net for the first time; however, I haven't seen one mosquito since being here. I slept like a rock!
Adios from Morales!
Gramma y yo (me...Kristin)
